Chapter 2

The narrator went into Mr. Spencer’s room. He was rapped with the blanket. The narrator tells him that he came to say good-bye to the teacher and that he is going to leave Pencey Prep. The narrator says that he just came back from New York with the fencing team. Mr. Spencer tells the narrator that his essay was too short, but he left a little note on the bottom of it; he thinks the narrator felt bad for him flunking him down. The narrator doesn’t want to stay at the Spencers anymore. He said good-bye to Mr. Spencer and left.
